where it's going

I'm not sure where it's all going, Robin. The internet is still brand new as a communication tool for the masses. While some of it may be social masturbation, surely not all of it is. I still think the internet is a useful tool for communication and for creating new kinds of social environments, but I don't think it's a good substitute for in-person encounters. It's a supplement, not a substitute. So where is it all headed.... Personally, I hope it goes in the direction of it becoming more powerfully integrated with in-person living.
