PSYCHOLOGY OF CYBERSPACE

Thanks for a thought-provoking post. It brought to mind several thoughts I've had as a result of observing interaction in newsgroups. Does/can/should the internet really promote "collectiveness?" I'm thinking of nationalism and cultural-based attitudes.

I've thought the net might serve as a great means for promoting mutual understanding. But instead I've observed many confrontations, often resulting from prejudice or bias.

Perhaps the internet can serve as a medium but it's the users of the medium, not the medium itself, that determine its personal or societal impact. It seems the travellers bring their old baggage with them.
