Vicki, I have been following the recent posts with interest. I agree with the post made by Martha Edwards and yourself about the pupose and difficulties of the BOL format. I wonder how each of us coming from diverse backgrounds can come to a appreciate each other's work without unnecessary intense affect. My own assumption is that no current model answers all the questions and it is only by learning something about other's work can I really prepare myself to fulfill my role.
I've read Don's early work on Shame, but do not claim to have absorbed it all. So, the question I have may have missed the mark. Here goes: In your recent post you mentioned that a person's personality is a collection of affect scripts. These scripts reflect how a person organize their experiences. Do people organize their experiences with a particular intention in mind (eg. avoid shame experiences)? What is the role of meaning making in Tompkins-Nathanson's model?
