    Re:Origins of 'common sense'

    The following references in "The Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler," edited by Heinz and Rowena Ansbacher, may also offer some insight.

    On pages 253-254, Adler discusses private intelligence versus common sense (sense that can be shared).

    Pages149: " We may define common sense as all those forms of expression and as the content of all behavior which we find beneficial to the community."

    Page329: "Among the poetic works of art that have lead me to the insights of Individual Psychology the following stand out as pinnacles: fairy tales, the Bible, Shakespeare, and Goethe."

    For a contrasting perspective, take a look at page 77-78 for the influence of Vaihinger's fictionalism.
