An Adlerian organizational consultant would examine the specific individual and his/her work work setting. There are some work environments that are physically unhealthy, excessively pressured, and psychologically depreciating. In these cases, options for improving, changing or leaving the setting could be discussed with the employee and/or manager. However, the root of the stress may lie within the individual and his/her perception of the work setting and people, or be related to an overblown (unconscious, fictional final) goal of personal power, perfection, or entitlement. Many people spend a full day working at a computer keyboard and screen, and don't take preventative measures for their health. Easy, convenient, safe Chi Gung (similar to Tai Chi) exercises can help enormously. Getting enough sleep is fundamental to compensating for a stressful day. The Classical Adlerian approach is always to explore the unique individual in his/her unique setting. Frequently, the solution for damaging stress involves a combination of psychological and environmental change. Although relaxation techniques can be pleasant and modestly helpful (often only temporarily), correcting the core of the problem is more effective.
There are some occupations, like day-trading, that are inherenly and chronically stressful, frequently triggering cyclical elation and depression. The obsession with getting rich quick is often rooted in profound emotional emptiness.
