Some psychotherapies (especially brief therapies) do emphasize the practical/behavioral aspects of living and neglect the potential influences of the arts. Classical Adlerian psychotherapy acknowledges the life-enrichment contributions of art and artists and attempts to integrate one's aesthetic needs and sensibilities with with the practical, economic, social, philosophical, and religious aspects of living. A central assumption of Adlerian psychology is the precious creative power of the individual. If the 'brick wall" is actually the artist's self-limiting style of life, he can benefit from the liberating encouragement and insight of a good depth-oriented psychotherapy. Adler placed great value on the contributions of artists, and generally, so do those who follow his original teachings.
