Classical Adlerian psychotherapy, as a depth therapy, has the potential of dissolving (or at least modifying) the style of life and fictional final goal of a client. See "The Twelve Stages of Classical Adlerian Psychotherapy," at http://go.ourworld.nu/hstein/stages2.htm . Counseling usually focuses on behavioral or attitude change, but may not modify the underlying, unconscious pull of a fictional final goal. Consequently, the client may simply control negative behavior, substitute symptoms, or still be tempted to lean in the problematic direction if the cost is not too great.
