Dear Stacey, Sherry Ittner
I am a Parent Educator and the course I teach is called Redirecting Children's Behavior. It is based on the work of Dr. Dreikur's. One of the things he talks about in his book children the challenge is democracy. How it is not just a political ideal but a way of life. Children are particularly sensitive to our social climate. They to are demanding democracy. Dreikurs beleived that children despite all our difference should be treated with dignity and respect. He also beleived that encouragement not discouragement could change a family. I have been teaching this course for 8 years and have seen my family change and grow to be a supporting, loving, interdependant team.
He was a visionary and was very much in touch with the approach parents are trying to take now with their children.
I hope this information helps a little.
