Ellis acknowledges being influenced by Adler, and like so many others who have borrowed a little of Adler, he takes what is easier to teach and more marketable to the public, but leaves out constructs that are critical for deeper therapeutic change (i.e., the style of life, fictional final goal, and the feeling of community). REBT can be helpful to some clients, and could be more comfortable for therapists who lean toward a more directive, cognitive approach.
