Any psychological treatment of physical trauma must take into consideration the real limits of functioning. However, the Adlerian approach emphasizes encouragement to compensate for disability. A very influential factor in rehabilitation is the pre-exisiting style of life and fictional final goal of the individual. This will determine the attitude the patient takes toward the disability and rehabilitation. Diminished cognitive capacity can be devastating, but it may still be possible for the individual to be helpful and cooperative within their limitations.
