Re: Psychology as Art vs. Science
The diagnostic and therapeutic applications of Adler's theory indeed demand an "artistic empathy" on the part of the clinician. Just as science cannot adequately penetrate the mystery of art, a style of life forged out of the creative power of an individual can only be divined by a creative leap, not a scientific analysis.
