Positive psychological compensation is generally related to a normal feeling of inferiority and is an attempt to restore balance. A deeper feeling of inferiority can lead to negative overcompensation, which has the goal of superiority over others, and undercompensation, which entails the demand for help. In some cases, overcompensation can lead to extraordinary achievement (genius). The bodily organs can also compensate or overcompensate for structural or functional deficiences.
