Classical Adlerian therapists are trained to "empty" themselves and "fill up" with impressions from the client. Observation, analysis, synthesis, feeling tone empathy, emotional vibrations, images, and somatic responses are all valuable personal clues to the vigorous guessing required to achieve an in-depth understanding of the client's style of life. Eventually, all of these clues have to be translated into an intellectual conclusion. We also expect a therapist to engage in a thorough study-analysis with a training analyst, to resolve any personal issues that might prevent a full access of the client's experience.
