A student of mine, Mary Goebel, did her dissertation on personality priorities in children. Essentially, she conducted a factor analysis of personality priorities in children between the ages of 6 and 12, adapting Langenfeld's instrument for adults. Her results were similar to those of Langenfeld's five factor solution, which primarily supports the "Big 5" theory of personality.
I found the results to be provocative, particularly in that they demonstrate the development of reliable traits in young children... In general, I think we (psychologists) leave "diagnosis"too late... after the damage is done, rather than formatively, when the opportunity for impact is much greater.
I'm hoping to work with her to publish some of her work.
