A pre-congress workshop, "Providing the Missing Developmental Experience," will be offered on Monday, August 2nd, 1999 at the International Association of Individual Psychology Congress in Chicago. It will be presented by Henry T. Stein, Ph.D. and Martha E. Edwards, Ph.D. For registration information about the entire congress scheduled August 2-7, visit http://go.ourworld.nu/hstein/iaip2.htm . The missing developmental experience technique (MDE) is used, within the context of Classical Adlerian psychotherapy, to promote a therapeutic breakthrough--one that facilitates the integration of insight and deep feeling. The presentation will include: planning the content and form of the MDE; timing the intervention; techniques for implementation; assessing the effect of the MDE; building a progressive series of MDE's; and strategies for debriefing afterwards. Several demonstrations of MDE therapeutic techniques will be offered to illustrate the process. A overview of the MDE technique is available online at http://go.ourworld.nu/hstein/provid.htm .
