The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists advertised the theme of its recent annual conference as "Character, Connection, and Community." Quoting their ad copy, "A clearer perspective on what matters in life can be achieved when focus is placed on 'we' rather than 'me'." They go on to declare the value of focusing on community. However, the emphasis seems to be on the benefits to the community of therapists rather than the benefits to the community at large. (If so, its a rather short-sighted perspective.)
Has anyone attended the conference at Cosa Mesa in early May? Did any of the presentations mention Adler's ideas about the feeling of community?
