Pat, I have found from my limited experience with early adolescent boys that they often respond well to exposure to vocational exploration. I suspect that your population (early adolescent boys/low self esteem) may come from single parent families with limited exposure to the world of work. May I suggest that you have a session entitled "what I want to do when I grow up" or something to that effect and have your clients express themselves. Maybe have guest speakers (ie. fireman/lawyer/social worker(nah!) and maybe use the want ads and also have your clients do a family search (ie. My Uncle the mailman). Goal-increase vocational information-method-career exploration/exposure. You could use a pre and post test which measures their knowledge of the world of work.
