I currently work in a program that uses Saminov's ideas of criminal thinking. I work with the juvenile delinquent population. I have modified this program to incorporate some Adlerian techniques and methods. I work to uncover the hidden goals of the kids in the group. I have found that as the hidden goals are seen and the present behaviors are looked at insight is obtained. And for many of the kids the insight is not enough, however peer confrontation helps. The kids do not want to be seen in a bad light, as criminal thinkers. Their peers will point out their goals when their acts are discussed. We look at past situations and rework the end result to a more socially useful solution. This seems to have a positive affect on most of the kids when the situation comes up again.
I do believe Adlerian methods work well. When I find the original thing that discouraged them I am able to help them to create change.
