I do believe that change in a more useful direction can occur with encouragement. I do not believe that the life syle can be dissolved by erroneous interpretation in that the life style's goal is "hidden" from the client. A fortuitous albeit mistaken interpretation that points away from the goal to an improved goal, I believe can be of real benefit. Before I learned about Classical Adlerian work thanks to Henry, I had very low precision in identifying the "Goal" but could often see the "way the ship was listing" and add "ballast to the tanks" to level it out. The ship would still ride low in the water, but I did often see improvement either by luck or by the fact that I had identified a "wrong direction" and attempted to make a "mid-course correction" like I used to do as an aircraft pilot mid way in a flight. I sure appreciate the much more like Adler notion of dissolving the life style completly and getting the albatros off the client's neck.
