Original source of passage attributed to Adler

The following passage is attributed to Adler. Does anyone know--if, in fact, this does come from Adler--the original source? Thanks. Carroll

"Heaven is not to be won by rest and ease and quiet. Only those who have suffered and endured greatly have achieved greatly. . . . Man has ever risen nearer to God by the altar stairs which lead through darkness, forever upwards, toward the Very Throne of God." --Alfred Adler (1870-1937). In Pesach Krauss and Marrie Goldfischer (1988). Why me? Coping with Grief, Loss, and Change, p. 154
