In The Drive for Self: Alfred Adler and the Founding of Individual Psychology, on page 6 Edward Hoffman states that "as a toddler, whenever he became angry he suffered from a mild spasm of breathlessness caused by a contraction of the glottis. Decades later, when he was known for his pugnaciousness, he recalled rather jokingly that, 'The situaiton was so agonzing that at the age of three, I decided to give up being angry altogether. From that day, I have never been angry.'"
