symptom reporting of mental illness

Hi

We're currently studying Medical psychology and sociology as part of our second term in Medical school. As part of the first assignment I need to discuss the issue of symptom reporting (ie Iceberg of illness), Consultation triggers, and measuring health and illness in a specific population. The tough bit is trying to relate all the above to Mental illness. What I have down on paper so far sounds rather vague and unsubstanciated.

I would be interested to hear what some of you have to say about said issues.
