question regarding court cases & EMDR

Hi, I have had some one refered to me for EMDR however as she is a victim and the case is going to court would it be only right to wait until the court case is over?

My concern is that if I start EMDR with her it may affect the outcome of the trial if she has to take the stand.

Any opinions greatly appreciated

I'd ask her attorney if s/he is okay if the patient improves. There is a myth that attorneys want their clients unhinged, but I think the good ones realize that an unraveled client doesn't make a terrific witness. But if the attorney is aware what the possible outcomes are, they may choose earlier depos or video depos, in case the client gets much better. In my experience, good attorneys say it's fine if the client gets better. And then they do, and they may a sound and believable witness because they can describe their injuries in an integrated and comprehensible way.

Even if her lawyer prefers to defer the trauma work, it might be possible to assist your client's general well being and ability to cope in the stand by working her her to install resources and/or "safe place" work.

Thank you Sandra very helpful.
As I am a counsellor I was going to give her some counselling sessions however installing a safe place in order for her to cope while giving evidence is a really good idea thanks andmetoo.

I am rather a newbie at EMDR after just finishing my third part at the end of last year.

That reminds me to say that the laws are not the same state to state and country to country and that's why its good to talk to the patient's attorney, who will know the relevant law.
